Baggage

I've tried to leave my baggage behind
Sitting beyond the threshold of the door I walked through
However it does find me from time to time
But I do my best to quickly pack it back into, a
More hardened case that cannot find, me
Where I am trying to start anew

I know I can't always control the situation
But I can try to control my reaction
But a knee jerk response will sometimes happen
I just need some understanding and compassion

Everyone has a story, how you tell it shows what you're made of
The bystander, the victim, or the Phoenix
Will you sink or rise above (it)

No desire to suffer senseless drama
No appetite to dwell in past trauma
Won't line my shelves with bottles from big pharma

Part played in the sorrow and the glory
There are two sides to every story
I'm taking accountability for my actions
And have an active role in what next happens

On my own I'll learn to love myself
Become the best version of me for me
Leave the worst parts upon the shelf
Take social integration cautiously and slowly

Eventually my baggage will be gone for good
Stop appearing when I'd expect it would
See things at face value for what they are
Expecting more for me I've raised the bar

Leave it behind

No desire to suffer senseless drama
No appetite to dwell in past trauma
Won't line my shelves with bottles from big pharma

Part played in the sorrow and the glory
There are two sides to every story
I'm taking accountability for my actions
And have an active role in what next happens

On my own I'll learn to love myself
Become the best version of me for me
Leave the worst parts upon the shelf
Take social integration cautiously and slowly

Leave it behind

Eventually my baggage will be gone for good
Stop appearing when I'd expect it would
See things at face value for what they are
Expecting more for me I've raised the bar

Leave it behind
