Chapter 16

The curtain sways, and then it parts
He works his hands to shape his art
The only sound comes from beneath his feet
The wooden boards release a creak
And in the wings he knows he'll see no vacant eye
It's his greatest work
His Faust tonight

To perform it is a joy
As art's made to share
But with a glance to the seats he sees
There's no-one there

And so it seems
I'm not even worth booing
Am I not even worth their time?
He turns round aghast
Face white. A flash
The audience is in
Stood behind him
Eyes wide and awed as they begin to
Applaud

I can feel an aching in my chest
Oh the horror wells inside me, and overflows
My face still aglow

So I grab my hat, and cross the floor
I never stop to look behind me, I'm heading home
To wake up alone

Oh will I ever get away?

Lamp lit, I stumble to my bed
But I glance out
To the window and I see the mass
Faces pressed to the glass

So I turn the light off, but I realise
I shouldn't have done so, now they know I'm trying to hide away
Away
So I grab my covers
I find the corner of the room
And I press my face up to the wall

And I wait
And I wait
And I wait
And I wait
And I wait
And I wait
And I wait
And I wait
