Gentle Gardener

O Spirit, you have searched me and you know me
You see every sorrow, hurt, and fear
They've grown up like weeds in our garden
Choking out the life through these hard years
You're holding out your hand as you invite me
To join you on this journey of my soul
Your gentle staff directs me as it tears down
The thorns preventing me from being whole

Even though the pruning will be painful
I choose trusting you with every part
Cause like a gentle gardener, you're tilling
And turning ash to beauty in my heart

You sow clarity where there was just confusion
Words of life, fresh wind upon your breath
You pour out your living water on this garden
And your grace to places buried deep in death

So I yield to the gardener
I trust your gentle hand
You're redeeming my story
And sowing new life deep within

You are catching all the foxes in the vineyard
As you clear new pathways through the burned-out wood
Where the trees that fell in all the desolation
Display new growth I never dreamed they could

So I yield to the gardener
I trust your gentle hand
You're redeeming my story
And sowing new life deep within

This my simple prayer to the gardener
Let the work we've done become an overflow
Let the life we've cultivated in this garden
Help other flowers grow
