180°

When the carriages come to town
Jeweled evergreens will spring from the ground
Ball peen hammers make silver bell sounds
And the king's quarter tents are raised all around

Down at the German fair
Hand-glued heirlooms and twice your fair share
You can sip the yuletide air
And it looks like a painting at the center of the square

A soft-baked glow settles in the asphalt valley
The brass band is rose from the wine and finales
You can laud the season or shout it's a sham
Are the feelings real, or is it the pomp and the glam?

Cathedral bells are ringing
And the tin can cape is spinning
But something's felt off from the very beginning
They're vaudevillian and they're prize-winning

Father blessed cause he had to
Friends showed up cause it's really bad not to
They had a guestbook and toasts cause you got to
And everyone rose and sat when asked to

I can see through people and straight to their hearts
The will and the reach that rules all other parts
These folks were crystals corroded with clouds
I can see a break over my looking glass now

Your romance was suitcase cash
Fairytale dust and storybook ash
Golden handcuffs I locked unabashed
Then it became all clash clash clash

But I'm always belt and braces
And picking up pieces of joy between paces
Look at all that we gave it
And what you spat back - you betrayed me and I hate it

It's all gone now, lock stock and barrel
And I embrace my prospects are getting more narrow
Don't believe everything that you read
In the stars, in our palms, or in the feelings we need
