I'd Rather Be

I have a son who happens to be 13
When you grow up what do you want to be
He looked me in the eye
Dad I'm not going to lie
I'm going to be Buster Posey

Remember my dad asking me
Same thing when I was 13
I remember what I said
If I were someone instead
I'd have to be Wayne Gretzky

But then I realized
That I would be denied
Of the memories and my time
With my children and my wife
And that would be a crime to me

So my son said hey what about me
Would I chose Wayne or Buster Posey
I looked him in the eye
And he was quite surprised
When I simply said
I'd rather be me
With apologies
To Wayne Gretzky
And Buster Posey
I'd rather be me
I'd rather be me
I'd rather be me
