Picking My Battles

My lists have lists
My goals have goals
I cross one off, another grows
Don't ask for whom the alarm clock tolls
It always tolls for me

I know I should floss twice a day
Exercise, or so they say
I bought running shoes to keep the wolves at bay
And they still look pristine

I'm not giving up
I'm just looking at
The long term benefits of slowing down

I'm picking my battles
I'm taking my time
And using it as I see fit
You waste yours and I'll waste mine
I'm picking my battles
I can't fight them all
If I stay far enough away they start looking small

I met a man in line today
Who read to me his resume
I didn't have a lot to say
Which suited him just fine

The more I heard the less I spoke
My mind retreated into smoke
His mic was hot, his receiver broken
A one-man party line

I'm not clamming up
I'm just looking at
The long term benefits of piping down

I'm picking my battles
I'm taking my time
And using it as I see fit
You waste yours and I'll waste mine
I'm picking my battles
I can't fight them all
If I stay far enough away they start looking small
