Dogs

Moon is up there in a sliver, saltier than ever, sideways like a grin
I hear dogs barking in the distance, I can't help but wonder what they see from their chain pen
I think they see a highway, in the cold and dark a rider, cutting through the drone
Two wheels, flying home to someone, she'll wait for him forever, drunk on being alone

Running, swiftly to that highway when I hear the dogs a wailing, I don't wanna be alone
I will still wait for you forever, way too high to notice if it's hell or if it's home

Dogs, barking at the highway, silent for a second, when they hear them tires roll
Metal dragging on the pavement, cutting through the darkness, like a gunshot in a home
Sirens, I imagine them a wailing, calling out and warning him to head on home
Dogs cry back like they are talking, from their cages they are watching him getting scraped up off the road

Running, swiftly to that highway when I hear the dogs a wailing, I don't wanna be alone
I will still wait for you forever, way too high to notice if it's hell or if it's home

Face up, gazing at the heavens, in forty different pieces, skin and blood and bones
Crawling, teeth are in the gutter, wishing he was with her, the eye that's left has closed
Weeping, cursing him forever, putting him together, skin and blood and bones
Dogs wail right along side her in the dead of winter, calling him come home

Running, swiftly to that highway when I hear the dogs a wailing, I don't wanna be alone
I will still wait for you forever, way too high to notice if it's hell or if it's home
