Roots Go Deep

Just a simple tree
Growing week by week
Giving us green leaves
In the spring

But there comes a time
When the weather grows cold
And those leaves they fall
Fall to the ground

Let my roots go deep
Let them touch the water
Let my heart burn for you
In and out of season

Those trees green leaves
They don't mean anything
Without the roots that make them
What they are

And those bare old branches
There year after year
Carry birds and children
Even in the winter

Let my roots go deep
Let them touch the water
Let my heart burn for you
In and out of season

Green seasons aren't everything
And green trees aren't more of a tree

Barren seasons make
The baby sweeter when they come
Even in the desert places
I will plant myself by the river

Let my roots go deep
Let them touch the water
Let my heart burn for you
In and out of season

Green seasons aren't everything
And green trees aren't more of a tree

Let my roots go deep
Let them touch the water
Let my heart burn for you
In and out of season

Green seasons aren't everything
And green trees aren't more of a tree
