I Don't Need to Be That Lucky
David Lee from Kentucky
He won twenty-seven million in the lottery
Bought a Lear jet and a Lamborghini
Lots of heroin, cocaine and ecstasy
Five years later, he didn't have a penny
But he did get to keep the Hepatitis C
They once said he was lucky
I don't need to be that lucky
Reggie was a linebacker at A&M
Everyone there, they envied him
Drafted in the first round by the Lions
Had a contract value in the millions
His first NFL season, the final game
He busted his spinal cord and his life was never the same
They once said he was lucky
I don't need to be that lucky
Then there's Noah, he was five
Went with his family, for a drive
When the Kia lost control, swerved to the wrong side
And everyone in the car but him died
They said he was lucky to survive
That's the sort of luck that really makes you wanna cry
And hope you're never that lucky
I don't need to be that lucky
When you lose your spouse or your best friend
A parent, a sibling or one of your children
You know there ain't nothing worth inheriting
To make up for the hurt, when you'll never see 'em again
Life insurance is the bet that you don't wanna win
It's the one wager you make that you'll never cash in
But someone else may get lucky
I don't need to be that lucky
You still may break your leg
Even if you keep your fingers crossed
You better not trust that rabbit's foot
Even if you just saw an albatross
While holding your lucky stones
Tiger's eye, jade and peridot
While standing below a double rainbow
After finding a penny and a shamrock
But do you need to be that lucky?
I don't need to be that lucky
Now back to real life, mine's a pretty plain story
Karmic harmony's working out well for me
Got a wonderful wife and a fabulous family
Don't need fame, power or a lot more money
But I do like to write thoughtful poetry
Like this one about the time when it really stuck me
That I'm pretty damn lucky
It's good to be lucky
You don't need to be lucky
To be lucky
He won twenty-seven million in the lottery
