Child in Me (East Texas)

I was born the daughter of a southern belle
My old man spent his life in the county jail
We played in the woods outside my farm
I became a woman inside that barn
Taught respect and learned to love
I held my faith in the Lord above
I spoke my mind and I held my own
But it seems those days are forever gone

Times are changing and so are we
But I can't let go of a child in me
Our bodies keep growing, it's hard to believe

I swam in the pond behind our shed
I did everything that my mother said
Flirted with the boys in Sunday school
I was the queen in a world of fools

Learned to love in the back of my Jeep
When I played, man, I played for keeps
I was too young to grow up that fast
Wanted everything and wanted it to last

But I can't let go of a child in me

Graduate at school while pregnant with you
