Moonflowers

She lay upon the moonflowers white
Picking petals by the score
Could her true love have come to her
In fields to promise more?

I saw you in a poem last night
Or was it just a dream?
She told the air
And twirled her hair
And dared a quiet hope fair

And on the days that fade forlorn
Or when she feels alone
She'll wish upon the moonflowers
And feel she is reborn

And on the days that fog and fold
When shadows do take hold
She'll wish upon the moonflowers

And though the crow of memory
Would not let her mind lie
Today, she spied with her wide eye
A love to which she'd fly

She sought solace
In prayers held fast
And made beneath the leaves

Softened gaze
But fire did blaze
For things meant so to be
For things meant so to be

She lay upon the moonflowers white
Picking petals from his hair
The glow had shed the light on them
A kingdom for that pair
