The Half-Light

Down the garden path,
Winding endlessly,
Owls are watching every step,
Talking silently.

"Rest your weary bones",
Speaks the closest bird,
"For I have watched you come and go,
I have watched you go".

And I think,
I think they know
Many things that they shouldn't.

In the half-light I hide but can barely see
A second or two in front of me,
I can make out just enough to find my way back.

A stranger on the pass,
Huddled in the cold,
Dirt outlines his weathered face,
Bereft of love and grace.

And I think,
I think he knows
Many things that,
That he shouldn't.

In the half-light I hide but can barely see
A second or two in front of me,
I can make out just enough to find my way back.

Set right back from the road I found it.
Now I rest and finally put my feet up.
My sole regret is that I must one day leave.
