Ten Again

1, 2, 3, 4, Hopscotch was my favorite sport
count to 10, do it again
it's been around since I don't know when
you were more of the jumprope kind
if you had to, you would wait in line
a blue ribbon winner and only a beginner
what a success in a fifth grader's mind
race me down to the track for fun,
but hurry because the relay's begun
we'll end the day with a volleyball game
and when it's over, we'll walk away in shame

we never thought of growing older then
we loved the life make-believe and pretend
naïve and so curious thought everything so serious
oh what I would give to be ten again

the playscape's a castle and here is the dungeon
I'll be the princess and I have been locked in
You'll be my prince on your trusty steed just like in all of the movies we've seen
One day I'll ask why you've been following me
You'll look to your feet and say that you're sorry
A playground romance, ignored at first glance
Cause neither of us knew what it really could be

we never thought of growing older then
we loved the life make-believe and pretend
naïve and so curious thought everything so serious
oh what I would give to be ten again

a, b, c, d read your books quietly
we were taught early on to whisper in the library
when 3: 15 comes around, we'll return to the playground
kids of our age wish that track and field was year round

1, 2, 3, 4, a, b, c, d

we never thought of growing older then
we loved the life make-believe and pretend
naïve and so curious thought everything so serious
oh what I would give to be ten again
oh what I would give to be ten again
oh what I would give to be ten again
