Spoken Liner Note - I Could Fall In Love

I remember going to Nashville
Um, with Selena to work with a, a producer
That-at is really, you know
Kind of at the, at the top of his game
A man by the name of Keith Thomas
Who wrote and produced the song, "I Could Fall In Love"

And I remember her totally digging on the demo
That she had received from I guess her father
From the record label, had sent it to her or whatever and
Listening to it and really wanting to give it her best, you know
She was really excited about this mainstream album
That she was gonna get to work on
This was one of the first songs that had come in and

And I remember we get to Nashville
And the actual studio was not in Nashville
So we had to drive for a good hour or so out of the city
To go to this guy's studio, which was awesome
"Elephant Tracks", I believe, is what it was called
And uhm, he gave her another rough demo
Which it wasn't very rough sounding by the way
It's an awesome sounding demo

And we had run into uhm, Winona Judd
The country singer there and
Got to hang out with her around uh, you know
The lounge area talking to her
And I mean Selena just had her laughing
You know, like crazy
And she had Selena laughing like crazy
They hit it off really well

And that night when we went back from the studio
Drove back to the hotel we were staying in
She had the cassette on her Walkman on loop
And must have heard it about
Man, a hundred times that night
She fell asleep with the headphones on listening to that song
And you know I knew she liked the song

And the effect that it had on her, the outcome it had was, I mean
Basically, she went into the studio the next day to actually do the recording
And just was nailing things left and right
And Keith Thomas was letting her just do her thing
I just kind of stood back and watched her and amazed me
The things that she was doing, you know
I mean because

When she had the headphones on, she wasn't singing along
She wasn't, uh, working out parts where I could see
You know that she was gonna do except
She was doing it in her head and I didn't
I didn't know that

So when she went into the studio and started doing
What she had been thinking about
It was just some, some awesome stuff, awesome
And I mean everybody can hear it now on-on, on the album
On the song, "I Could Fall In Love"

Uh, written by Keith Thomas
And in my opinion an incredible songwriter and producer
I flew with Selena on this trip, Selena did fly with me out to
We flew together to Nashville to go meet with him

And, um, he came out and, uh
He's a, a gentleman that would really, really fool you
You would never think that he had
So much soul or sang the way he did
Uh, just by at first glance type thing, you know

Uhm, real businessman-looking gentleman
Uh, he walks into the room, and he says, "How you doing?
I'm Keith Thomas"
And he introduces himself to, uh
Selena and then to myself
And then he says
"I'm sorry, but I haven't had the time to put the vocal on the song
It's called, "I Could Fall In Love"

And I haven't had the chance to put the vocal on the song
So I'm going to just kind of sing it
So you're going to have to bear with me
Because I'm not much of a singer"

And so, the music starts
And I'm just digging it, you know, digging the beat
Selena's into it, and you know
He starts singing it
And I promise you, I had, I had never heard anybody sing
With so much passion and soul as Keith Thomas

I mean, he left me literally with my jaw on the ground
I mean, he, he just understood the song so much
And we automatically
Selena fell in love with it and I did too
And I said, "Man, Selena, we've gotta, you've gotta do this song on your album, man"
And so, uh
The song came to be, and it's another one of my favorites
