Firefly

Sitting at the Sherwood Diner, breakfast 4pm
This morning she told me she wanted to be
Just friends

Now as she sidles over, to my side of the booth
I look into her eyes and see that isn't all the truth

Uh huh
I'm gonna miss my firefly

You know when she told me
There were tears in her eyes
And we spent all day in my bed
To try to say goodbye
Now all that's left in front of me
Are remnants of French toast
And the lingering shimmer
Of my former lover's ghost

Uh huh¨
I'm gonna miss my firefly

Do I chase her
Should I let her go
I think I could catch her if I tried

Put her in a big glass jar
Just to watch the glow
But why would you want to trap a firefly?

Now I remember every bit
Of my last days with her
Everything before and after
Is one big messy blur
We were naked on the balcony
Goose bumps on our thighs
The half moon shined on the water
We just watched and cried

Uh huh
I'm gonna miss my firefly

Uh huh
I'm gonna miss my firefly

Uh huh
I'm gonna miss my firefly
