Pain They Face

His constant fear that he calls survival
Is slipping with his ever tensing grip
A sudden change in his existence
Has left him with no one to turn to but himself
He pleads for a chance to better his life
But tomorrow he knows he'll face it
Alone the sun rises through another day
And with this small hope
He tries to hold on
I disregarded all that he struggles to obtain
I take for granted the chances he never sees
I'm guilty of ignoring his empty hand
Now I see the pain that surrounds him
The emptiness of their eyes bolis me with guilt
The pain they face will not go unknown
Why must they be trapped in a cycle that never ends?
Understanding their anguish can finally comprehend
Pain they face and when the sun goes down
When prosperity slips my hand
I think of how I used to treat them
Now I can see the pain they face
