I Had a Dream

When I was young I heard it calling
A lonesome wail sometimes at midnight
I made me dream of going somewhere
The clickity-clack until the morning light

I took your hand and you said it was okay
We dream the same dreams some of the time
And there was thunder all around us
We heard the trains go crashing by

I had a dream that the train would take me
Across the Prairie to the rodeo
I dreamed a lovely senorita was waiting
South of the border down in Mexico

When I grew up I became a musician
We rode the rails from Saint John to Halifax
Flat top guitars and a feeling of freedom
We wrote the songs to the clickity-clack
