High Uinta High

From the Salt Lake on the West side
The sun burns red and the moon shines bright
It lights the mountains that cut the sky
And I never left over roads so high

I followed the fence for seven miles
Across empty fields and endless skies
The grass was greener on the other side
And the river ran all through the night

I gotta get back where I came from
Past all the things that made me
Made me feel numb

Oh Lord please save my family
And all the friends surrounding me
Put them near the highest tree
And I will know that you saved me

I gotta get back to the tree line
The dusty road and shot-up stop sign
I'll miss the power lines stretched out ahead
Against the shadow of a mountain
I need an empty road and a lonely wind
To bring me back again

And I've spent years in the skyline
Where too much time is no waste of time
I'll miss the power lines above my head
Against the shadow of a building
I needed a busy road and the ocean wind
To love this high road again
