The Galway Shawl

Near Oranmore in the County Galway,
One pleasant evening in the month of May,
I spied a damsel she was fairand handsome,
Her beauty fairly took my breath away.

She wore no jewels, no costly diamonds,
No paint no powder, all no none at all,
She wore a bonnet with ribbons on it,
And around her shoulder was the Galway shawl.

She kept on walking, she kept on talking,
Till her father's cottage came into view,
She said come in sir, and meet my father,
And play to please him, The Foggy Dew.

I played The Blackbird and The Stack Of Barley,
ORodney's Glory, and The Foggy Dew.
She sang each note like an Irish linnet,
And the tears they flowed in to her eyes so blue.

She wore no jewels, no costly diamonds,
No paint no powder, all no none at all,
She wore a bonnet with ribbons on it,
And around her shoulder was the Galway shawl.

'Twas early, early, all in the morning,
I took the road for old Donegal,
She said and kissed me and she Said goodbye sir,
And my heart remained with the Galway shawl.

She wore no jewels, no costly diamonds,
No paint no powder, all no none at all,
No paint nor powder, no none at all
But she worn a bonnet with ribbons on it
And around her shoulder was the Galway shawl.
