Monastery

The shadows are growing longer in this room. The door is locked, you can't come in. These nights the radio is an old friend, a comrade in this monastic life as I live like a hermit inside my own head. Darkness brings me peace. Silence comforts me. Alone in this room, I'm the only company I want to keep. The phone won't ring tonight. I'm willing to sit still, patient and mute. Silent in its cradle while these four walls cradle me in their off-white embrace. Below me cars pass slowly, white noise in the black night. Darkness brings me peace. Silence comforts me. Alone in this room, I'm the only company I want to keep. Keep your eyes to yourself. They don't look good on me
