Sleepless Nights

I lay awake in bed until the mornin' comes
My mind goes on and on just like a beatin' drum
Am I a freak, or is it just hard to sleep?
I close my eyes a thousand times before I dream

But on nights like these
I can't sleep
So I don't dream

But across the hall I hear my mom on the telephone
It's then I know that I will never feel alone
Yeah, now I know
I'm not alone
I'm right at home

I hear her voice a-whispering in my ear
Her southern drawl so close, so soft, but I could hear
She wanted me to know
Part of her is with me
Wherever I may go

And sleepless nights are when I take my time to think
About the many lessons I have received
That I don't deserve
The love of my friends and family

And on this nights, I thank the lord for blessing me
I close my eyes a thousand times before I dream

But on nights like these
I can't sleep
So I don't dream
No, I can't sleep
So I don't dream
