How Do We Explain This to the Kids?

Hey kid, you're growing up so fast
I wish your innocence would last
Soon you'll have questions 'bout the stories we've told
Why'd we build a world fit to explode
Then kick the can straight down the road
Yeah that's one hell of a future we've sold
Now I'm not saying there was no need to fight
Just that the battle wasn't right
We got angry at the silliest things
I might be a little older
But I'm still looking for an answer
How do we explain this to the kids?

Now I know I've made mistakes, but I know for sure
