The Road
First burst on this earth May 21st coughing like a hearse
At his birth, Kevin thought he was cursed
The first words that he heard Father turned to the nurse
She said, "What's it all worth if we're hurting him worse?"
But life doesn't always work out like it's supposed to
Like bread doesn't pop when you watch the toaster
Used to say he'd be a star supernova
Running round school with a super soaker
Head full of cotton wool, never learned a lot at school
Pocket full of holes and a belly full of rocket fuel
But he never missed a shot at pool
So he thought he had a shot at keeping his pockets full
While I played hip-hop, Kevin learned trick shots
Heard he got rushed outside of a chip shop
Years later saw him at one of our shows
And asked about the path he chose
There's a road. There's a path you have to follow
Forget your yesterdays and see tomorrow
It's just that fear that keeps you here
It's just the sum of all these misspent years
Thomas showed promise from the day he first dropped in
An honest lad, flown away at four to the Promised Land
Where he learnt more than the gift of gab
He learnt to chirps and chat Spanish see and that's speaking modestly
Tom was an oddity, mind lost in the ether
Brightest of the sparks but lazy, baffled all his teachers
Only watched the trailers, and got bored with the features
Used to hang with Steve until God collared him the preacher
Now following this rhyme-like timelines
We descend on two scenes, two separate lives
The result of two dreams with stars in their eyes
Where one went blind and the other he saw sight
But which one is which, shit it's hard to find
I guess the moral of the story is life's a bitch, stick to your grind
Just remember that you can't rewind
And you reap what you sow in kind
There's a road. There's a path you have to follow
Forget your yesterdays and see tomorrow
It's just that fear that keeps you here
It's just the sum of all these misspent years
There's a road. There's a path you have to follow
Forget your yesterdays and see tomorrow
It's just that fear that keeps you here
It's just the sum of all these misspent years
There's a road. There's a path you have to follow
Forget your yesterdays and see tomorrow
It's just that fear that keeps us here
It's just the sum of all these misspent years
There's a road. There's a path you have to follow
Forget your yesterdays and see tomorrow
It's just that fear that keeps us here
