All My Mornings

Waking to a restlessness I know.
Cold and careless light stealing on strong.
Got to pick up what I can and go,
head on down the line that light has drawn.
All my mornings catch up to me at dawn.

I get so tired of asking for the ride,
holding out my hand, thumbing along,
asking who and what and where and why,
but all I know, the road keeps leading on.
All my mornings catch up to me at dawn.

Everything I wish I hadn't said,
every time I did somebody wrong,
I haven't gone far enough yet to forget.
It all comes back to me, shadows so long.
All my mornings catch up to me at dawn.

Many a mile to go today
and my borrowed time is spent and gone.
When I first set out upon this way
I thought that I could get free for a song.
All my mornings catch up to me at dawn.
