Settled Down

We got married on a Monday morning
At the office of the Justice Of The Peace
Had lunch at our favorite restaurant
Went out to the movies
And our lives were meshed together
But it didn't change a thing
We were so in love with being in love
And the good things good love brings

We got the college diploma
House on the corner lot
Complete set of pots and pans
And the knives in the hardwood block
We got the coffee maker and the grinder
The tea basket and the teapot
Matching table and chairs and dishes
And napkins made of cloth
Got the microwave toaster dishwasher
Television and V.C.R
Mountain bikes
Downhill skis
Brand new ski rack on our
Brand new car

We got everything we need
Almost everything we want
And we can order up some more with
Credit cards and catalogs
We're settled down

We got the doghouse and the dog
The catbox and the cat
Sofa and chairs and coffee table
With coffee table books to match
We got the California King Size bed
With king size pillows for our sleepy heads
400 percale linens
Goose down comforter
His and hers robes
His and hers slippers
Even the toilet paper says
"His" and "Hers"

We got everything we need
Almost everything we want
And it gets hard to tell the difference
As the stuff keeps piling on
We're settled down

We got dual incomes
And a monthly stack of bills
We don't have any children yet
For that we got some pills
And we got a lot of insurance
We feel pretty safe
We also got some locks and guns
And a can of pepper spray
And we have no idea
How long this will go on
So we're building up an IRA
The Social Security's gone
Yeah we're greedy
Like our politicians
But the law is on their side
So we pay them what they say is fair
And with the rest we just get by

With everything we need

And a thousand little worries
To keep us keeping on
We're settled down
