Limbo's a Nice Place to Visit

Limbo's a Nice Place to Visit

I walked along a road, one I hoped I would not tread
Ever again, without a friend.
How could things end, leaving me in dread?
And now who's that I see coming towards me?
It looks like it's me, and what a sight I seem to see...
Singing a song; nothing much wrong.
I felt all along that I was finally free.
I sang,

"So in love. I'm so in love. I'm so in love."
I'd look her way, I'd smile and go...
"So in love. I'm so in love. I'm so in love."
I was feeling good, and it would sure show.
"So in love. I'm so in love. I'm so in love."
I'll find a way. I'm not sure how.
"So in love. I'm so in love. I'm so in love."
If I could see her now...

In the cold evening gloom how I poured out my soul
To a friend in a striped shirt who didn't even know how
I played all my cards so close to my chest
Or that I had played a hand to try to win the best.
The game seemed near ending, but the ace up my sleeve
Soon became a joker whose smile just made me grieve.
And the Queen of Hearts, dealt herself out...
Jack beat three sixes. Still, he liked to pout.

Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to walk an August day away .
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to know not what to say.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to cry your tears and play it cool.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to break all Jack's rules.

In a darkened pool hall on a Friday afternoon,
Days off in Limbo were rusty silver spoons.
I lost all the games, my daydreams swayed.
Czars would be proud of how Vodka went away.
Cartoons at suppertime, they'll never look the same.
Should I walk back to the Village or piddle on the plain?
When I got back down there just in time for the show,
Jack was playing cards with a Queen I didn't know.

Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to bash your books upon your head.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to miss the words they said.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to drink your nights away alone.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to have to use the phone.

By the tiny church where I've never prayed,
With the pointed spire that leads my lonely way
Are the roads we walked when times were frayed,
Where you heard my voice; and then I backed away.
Now I'm walking out past Elizabeth's house,
Aimless and tired, looking like a mouse.
Rapunzel cries, she sees a home run.
She picks at my brain, and I know I'll have some fun.

If you'd sell me some land, I'd build you a home.
I'd sing you a song. You'd never be alone,
And the things that you say you appreciate here,
They'll be nothing to what I'll accomplish once there.
If you'd sell me some land, I'd build you a home.
I'd sing you a song. You'd never be alone,
And the things that you say you appreciate here,
They'll be nothing to what I'll accomplish once there.

Limbo can quickly go far away,
Banished by words that we'll have to speak someday.
I'll wait another week to see how you are.
Meantime, I'll keep my seat at the billiard bar.
Laughing at the madmen who battle just for fun,
Thunder-clouds, confused, rain on everyone.
When I heard you at last through the Thursday evening fog,
I came out of Limbo, no more a broken cog.

But Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to leave behind to speak to you.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to prove that I am true.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to hide away for three short weeks.
Limbo's a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to visit,
Such a nice place to go when I can't speak.
