Before I Go to Sleep

This thunderstorm has ruled too long
Made us careful of our steps
But it's not the rumble that ever scared me none
Just the flash that stole my breath

I guess the joke never quite made it
All the way across the pond
So when I go to tell it
I've got to keep in mind that the accent comes second to the pun

My man has issued another warning
The kind we all used to heed
But if I'm to fear anything at all I want to see before I go to sleep
If I'm to fear everything around I want to see before I go to sleep
I want to see before I go to sleep

I'm not the one who said it's safe in here
Though I'm the first to enter in
I spent the last hour, coughing up
All this blood no one knew I had
