When I Grow Up

If you had asked me as child what I wanted to be
When I grow up I would have most likely said something
Like an Olympian flippin on the uneven bars
A dolphin trainer or a Broadway star
I wanted to feel the applause and the adoration
Hear my name chanted in every nation

But now my mind is wiser and realize
The best things in life are a different kind

When I grow up
I wanna make somebody smile every day
When I grow up
I wanna make a bunch of money
And give it all away

No matter what career I choose,
If I help make a better world
I'm more than making it through

That's what I wanna do when I grow up.

The world is full of greedy people and it makes me wonder
Why they pinch their pennies 'til they're six feet under
I don't know to me it seems a little absurd
You can't take it with you, or so I've heard
I'd rather see my legacy mean something more
The world is so much bigger than we see before us

And though I can't fix it with the wave of my hand
I'll do the little miracles that I can

When I grow up
I wanna make somebody smile every day
When I grow up
I wanna make a bunch of money
And give it all away

No matter what career I choose,
If I help make a better world
I'm more than making it through

That's what I wanna do when I grow up.

Astronaut, physicist, epidemiologist
CPA, journalist, plumber or zoologist.
Who you are is more than what you do.

When I grow up
I wanna make somebody smile every day
When I grow up
I wanna make a bunch of money
And give it all away

No matter what career I choose,
If I help make a better world
I'm more than making it through

That's what I wanna do when I grow
What I wanna do when I grow
What I wanna do when I grow up!
