Does a Writer Have the Right? (Music Background)

DOES A WRITER HAVE THE RIGHT to say,
"Things shouldn't have turned out that way!"
And shine the light of "should have been" on history?

Is it wrong to win a fight that's lost?
Or toss the dice again?
"For the saddest words of thought or pen
are only these, 'It might have been."

DOES A WRITER HAVE THE RIGHT to do
What fate had no intention to?
And is the pen the answer to each mystery?

In my writers heart I know.
There's another way to go.
But, DOES A WRITER HAVE THE RIGHT to believe?
And with belief move mountains.
Conjure a dream and make it happen.

Redesign a moment when the old was new
Color every clue no matter where it leads to?
Fall upon your knees and pray for guidance on the way?

It's a writer's right to say and do,
Whatever they've a mind to do.
There are no rules to follow in this mystery.

In your heart you'll know what's best.
Then let instinct do the rest.
It's a writers right to turn a phrase,
To bore to tears,
To thrill and amaze.

It's a writers given right to re-write history!
