Urge for Going (Live)
I awoke today
And found the frost perched on the town
It hovered in a frozen sky, then
Gobbled summer down
When the sun turns traitor cold
And all the trees are shivering in a naked row
I get the urge for going
But I never seem to go
I get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
And summertime is falling down
And winter is closing in
I had me a man in summertime
With summer-colored skin
And not another girl in town
My darling's heart could win
But when the leaves fell, trembling down
And blue winds didn't rub their faces in the snow
He got the urge for going
And I had to let him go
He got the urge for going
When the meadow grass was turning brown
And summertime was falling down
And winter was closing in
Now the warriors of winter
They gave a cold triumphant shout
And all that stays is dying
All the leaves is camping out
See the geese in chevron flight
Flapping and racing on before the snow
They got the urge for going
And they got the wings to go
They get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
And summertime is falling down
And winter is closing in
I apply the fire with kindling now
I'll pull the blankets up to my chin
I'll lock the vagrant winter out
And both my wandering ears
I'd like to call back summertime
Have her stay for just another month or so
But she's got the urge for gong
So I guess she'll have to go
She gets the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown
How many people were here for the first show?
Anybody?
You were here for the first show?
But due to the difficulty of taping all these things
I'm going to repeat myself
Two songs worth
But they're my favorite two songs to sing, and I–
So i hope that, that it be your favorite songs to listen too
One of them comes from a book called, "Andrewson The Rain king"
And I'm right in the middle of the book
And I left Andrewson on route to Africa
Saying, "In the age where men can look down and see clouds–
And look up and see clouds
It shouldn't really be afraid or amazed by anything"
And I like the idea of that
So I developed it into a song called–
Tune your guitar
How does that sound to you?
It's sounds odd
It's a song called, "From both sides now"
And found the frost perched on the town
It hovered in a frozen sky, then
Gobbled summer down
When the sun turns traitor cold
And all the trees are shivering in a naked row
I get the urge for going
But I never seem to go
