62 Years

Old man sittin' on the side of the road barefeet
But wearing a chain of gold
That's an odd thing to see in this town
So I wandered all over, started peeking around
But he caught me, out of the corner of his eyes
So I kept on walkin', tryna slide on by
And he grab my arm, this scared me to death
I tried to run, but that's when he said

"Come here son, I've got something to tell you
I've got a little more wisdom than you do
I've wasted 62 years of my life chasing
What I thought was right
When the curtain come down and the lights come up
I was dancing with the devil
My body was stuck in my two left feet
Stumbling side by side, oh what a wasted
In beautiful life"

I can turn mute on my way thinkin' 'bout
What that old man had to say
Pulled out my flask and try to drink it away
But it won't leave my mind
What if the same thing happened to me?
I'm caught up in that same lost for greed
The more I drink, the more I heard
His old voice, speaking every words, saying

"Come here son, I've got something to tell you
I've got a little more wisdom than you do
I've wasted 62 years of my life chasing
What I thought was right
When the curtain come down and the lights come up
I was dancing with the devil
My body was stuck in my two left feet
Stumbling side by side, oh what a wasted
In beautiful life"

I spent years counting dots on the ceiling
And I spent years counting dots on the floor
Just trying to forget what he said that day
But I couldn't quite or shut that door

I heard him saying

"Come here son, I've got something to tell you
I've got a little more wisdom than you do
I've wasted 62 years of my life chasing
What I thought was right
When the curtain come down and the lights come up
I was dancing with the devil
My body was stuck in my two left feet
Stumbling side by side, oh what a wasted
In beautiful life"
