Girl Monday

I see her on her bicycle
I loved her from the moment I laid eyes on her
Completely

Today I wonder what she will wear
Colour of her makeup and her crazy hair
Could she be
Beyond me

She's not the kind of girl I ever dreamed about
But in my head she rides upon a nagging doubt

Today I'm planning to smile at her
It seems obscene to do it out of context
Know what I mean?
It's terrifying

She's not the kind of girl I ever dreamed about
Civilly disobedient and so highbrow
Kettled at the anti-war march
Speaks like she was in Middlemarch
Will she smile back at me?
I don't know but I intend to find out

We hole up in a studio in Bermondsey
And fortify with artful camaraderie
Forget about the weekday and the daily grind
Curl up on the futon till the summertime

Will she strip from me my ambiguity?
Grow a thicker skin?
My own opinion?

Girl Monday please take me home
