A Letter To Dustin

L.A., Monday, the 5th of November
Hello my sad little son
Well If your mama will read you the
letter i sent you, I'll tell you all I've done
I left out of Nashville on a big
jet plane, out of the foothills I flew
High over Memphis and Little Rock,
Arkansas, right through a thunderstorm too
I changed planes in Dallas and i tried to
call but I guess the phone lines were down
Then up out of Texas clean over the
desert and I landed in this big ole town
You remember how you'd ask me how much I
love you, I'd tell you as deep as the sea
And you'd hold your arms out as far as
you could and say that's how much you love me
Well yesterday I drove right down to that
ocean and it didn't look near deep enough
To set sail on one of your dime store
toy boats or hold even half of our love
(So you be a good guy now, go kiss you little sister)
Give another to your sweet mama too
I'll be home as soon as I lasso the moon
Cause thats what i set out to do
Just remember how you'd ask me how much I
love you, I'd tell you as deep as the sea
(Well ilI've seen that ocean now and it ain't deep enough)
To hold how much you mean
To me
