On "Your House"
Ironic and Hidden Track - Your House
Where the two semi-fictional lines songs
It was inspired by my having staying at this gentleman's house
Who I was sort of pseudo-dating
He'd be out of town a lot and he was very generous
And said, "Please let her go, stay in my house"
So I just, it was where these weird things were
I was interested in this gentleman and so
I didn't wanna look anywhere
But I did wanna look anywhere
And so is, it felt like I was invading
And at the same time, I've been welcomed
And so, Gwen was playing something on the guitar
And I just started singing and he stopped
And then I just kept singing and the whole song just kind of
Wrote itself
And we did try to do a version of, "Your House" with the track
I believe we have a copy of it somewhere
But it was begging to be sung in an a cappella way
And because it was a cappella, I just thought
"Well, if we're using it all, and I'd love to use it
Let's just high it at the end"
And we, we actually would perform Your House
I would perform Your House
I still say, "We" 'cause my bandmates, my bandmates
At first would leave the stage when I would perform that song
And I went up asking them to stay
'Cause there is something powerful about them having played
So intently and intensely throughout the show and then
Just stop and put their drumsticks down
And then I would perform it at the end of the show
And that has roughened my favorite moments
Because they were so painstakingly vulnerable
And intimate
You know, I didn't look at anyone in the audience for 15 years
'Cause these lost were way intense for me to lock on eyes with anybody
Thankfully, there were a lot of bright lights in my face
And I didn't have to do workout
I hid behind my hair a lot, I still do
