On Taylor Swift

Alanis recently joined Taylor Swift on stage
In Los Angeles to perform "You Oughta Know"

There are a lot of things I relate to about Taylor's experience
In some ways I actually project onto her that she's more
Resilient than I am maybe we're temperamentally different
I just feel like she's just this superpower and I was
Just holding it together by the skin of my teeth in a lot of ways
But similar experiences, you know

And when we did meet briefly, without speaking out of school
You know, just quickly shared stories of what it was to be in
That hot seat and that glittery little sweaty thrown that
We often have found ourselves in, in similar ways
It was really a heartening to be able to have that parody
Even if it were for a brief moment

And there are not a lot of people I meet who can relate to
What my experiences have been over the last 20-30 years and, ah
There's some PTSD around that, not having people to turn to and
And go, "You know what I mean?"
And they're often like, "No I don't, actually, at all"

So when, when I had a moment or two to connect with her
There weren't a lot of words that were needed to be used because
This kind of experience is so rare and unusual
And odd and beautiful and powerful, ah
That it was lovely to meet her and have that in common
