About Where's The Fun In Forever - Commentary
So there's an interesting story behind "Where's The Fun In Forever"
It all begins under the stars in Jamaica
Uhm, literally creating an open-air
Nothing but the sound of water in the distance
And, and this coversation
Uhm, it was, Pop and OAK, Steve Mostyn and myself
Uh, on this rooftop
Uhm, just creating music for Alicia, she had
She had flown us all out to
To work with her on her, you know, forthcoming album
A tremendous blessing an amazing experience
Probably my favorite music experience thus far in my career
Uhm, but here we were underneath the stars
Talking about Bohemian Rhapsody
On of my favorite all time songs, period, to this day
And Steve Mostyn, starts playing these, uh
These cord changes, this cord change rather
Uh, very, uh, renaissance, very, uh, I can't think of the term
Like baroque, very baroque changes
Reminded me of that period rather
And, thought to myself how awesome would it be to, write a
You know, a song, to these changes
Just felt like this, it reminded me of this feeling
From Bohemian Rhapsody
And, uh, I don't know what it was but something
Some part of the conversation
Made me respond, where's the fun in forever anyway?
Right? And hat was it, that was the start
I mean, I'll be honest with you, I only more recently realised that
I'm really getting older
Like, there's gonna be a time where I am, you know
The oldest person in the room or I'm a grandfather
Uhm, you know there's an end
And it was really saddening when I realised it more recently
Somehow I believed that I was gonna live forever
I felt like I was gonna live forever
But it was in this moment that
This thought popped into my head
And it was okay, I was okay with the fact I was gonna die someday
Only because I wondered
If we knew we were gonna live forever, would we
Would we ever accomplish so much, you know, as, as a human race?
Would we be so
Uh, would we, you know, invented all these things? Would we have
Uh, you know, thought of all these theories
Discovered things, progressed
In general? Or would we be lazy?
Uhm and it was in this thought that I started to write this song
And Alicia and I finished the song later on that night
And I remember leaving the island, with this haunting me
Because I'd never written a song that I felt so tied to for another artist, you know
I'm always there, you know if I'm creating for another artist
I'm-I'm normally very happy in just being involved and kind of like, uh
Facilitating the idea, but
For some reason this song was just so, I just felt so attached to it
Uhm, and I was
I'm sorry Alicia
I was really happy to hear that it didn't make your album
Uhm, and, and, and
Uhm, I, you know, I hit Alicia
And asked if she would be gracious enough to let us, let us keep it, uh
For my album, and, and she was
She was about it, you know, she let us keep it and I was so relieved
Uhm so we got the song and I, you know, added a few things to it
Uhm, and that's what the song is about, you know
Just about that perspective
You know, whe-where's the fun in forever anyways?
You know celebrate every moment that you have here and make the most of it
And I think it's really easy to get distracted
By the repetition in life, you know
Uhm, just gotta, we need reminders sometimes that
You know, tomorrow isn't promised
So enjoy it while you got it
And make the most of it, you know
