Beginning Of Sorrow - Commentary
"Beginning of Sorrows," um, wow
This is a song that Chris Broderick had written some of the music for
Shawn Drover actually helped him a little bit
And the, the lyric content was based off of, you know
A biblical story about end times, that certain things are gonna happen
That will indicate the beginning of sorrows of the world
And, and how things are gonna really get pretty jacked up for us
Kind of like how it's looking right now
But then I thought, you know, there are so many metal bands that have these apocalyptic songs
About Armageddon, about doom and gloom, and stuff like that, um
Why be another one of those guys?
So I thought, you know, beginning of sorrows is a whole 'nother thing
If you look at it from a, a person's perspective instead of from a biblical perspective
And so I thought okay, I'm gonna write a story about a woman who gets pregnant and there's a complication
And she's gotta decide, "Do I abort the child or do I go through with the delivery?
Because the doctors told me if I deliver the baby, I will die"
And she went for it, and she died
Baby is in the second verse, now it's his sorrow
His sorrow is being brought up in a foster home
The third verse is the circle being complete, the vicious cycle that it is
Because he becomes his dad, like father, like son, and the whole thing starts again
He goes out, finds a girl, gets her pregnant, disappears
She has the baby, another foster child in the world
And so on, and so on, and so on
Our nation right now is suffering from a bunch of cowardly men
That make babies and don't stick around
And, and it's really sad
You know, they make us have licenses to drive
Maybe they should make us have licenses to have babies
I don't know, but I, I would-
My kids are both legitimate and I've been there for them
And, and I know the difference between myself not having a dad around
And watching my kids have a dad around
It makes a big difference
