Excuse Me - Track by Track
'Excuse Me', this was like one of the very first songs we've written
That kind of was the sound of Nothing But Thieves
And we were happy, we put our fingers on it
And we were like, "Let's do more like this"
I guess it kinda depicted the sound
It was the first song that we really captured, sonically, what we were after
And not that a song particularly epitomises our sound
But I think that one captures it quite well
Because it's got an immediate mood about it
And it's got dynamics, not just in terms of sort of loud and soft
But also dark and light, if you know what I mean?
Yeah, that's why it felt right to open the album with it
One of the first songs we wrote, so therefore
One of the first songs we want people to hear of Nothing But Thieves
I think this is the first song in the writing process
Where we'd figured out how to use my voice with the falsettos
And it was quite a good base for a lot of later writing, like Dom said
So that's quite important to us and I'm glad we've got it on first, really
I had those lyrics, or the lyrical concept, at least, for a long long time
I'd kept trying to write that song
That's probably like the 5th time that I tried to write 'Excuse Me'
But obviously in different formats
I don't know, the music bit that we had just seemed to fit this whole
'Getting lost in London life' feel
That kind of was the sound of Nothing But Thieves
And we were happy, we put our fingers on it
And we were like, "Let's do more like this"
I guess it kinda depicted the sound
It was the first song that we really captured, sonically, what we were after
