Purple Princess
I was somewhere in Georgia Tennessee bound headed home for Florida
100 miles from the Chattanooga border
I stopped to get gas, cigarettes and a soda
earlier in the night me and my girl got in the biggest fight of our life and this time it's over even though I love her
so I walked out the store replaying what I told her then out the corner of my eye I see a man on the corner sittin on a red crate sofa shirt so ripped up.
so I walked over to hand him a few quarters
he looked at me sober and said the change I need you can't give me (can't give me)
don't reach in your pocket for 10s or 20s cuz money can't fill up my heart this empty
life's full of hurdles people are hurtful [?]
he grabbed hie backpack and reached in the front pocket pulled out a purse with a locket grabbed a picture inside and with watery eyes he said this is my daughter when she was 5 dressed up as a
purple princess she's the center of my whole world and forever be daddy's little girl
I hugged her held her close from the first breath I watched her grow
everytime she was scared she would cling to me. [?]
that's my baby give her life and give me death it's a father's job to protect and I don't wanna see the sun rise again
without my purple princess
and I was in a lost of words I wanted to ask I was afraid it would hurt him if I said something we wrong
sir has your daughter passed on?
he shuffled through his pictures handed me one and son
here's my princess with her mom before her first date on our front lawn
she couldn't even take two steps in those heels
I can't explain how that made me feel
first time I set eyes on her date that's the first time I set eyes on fate
and I should've known
he grabbed the backpack and the pictures off his lap and said
why can't god just give me this
bringing my baby in a purple dress
he said there's nothing I wouldn't give to hold her
teardrops fell on my shoulders but then she packed up and moved away with a man I forever hate
I was supposed to protect her instead I gave her hand to a man who didn't understand how to protect and it's all my fault
so to answer your question my princess is ... (what are you doing) sir excuse me I'll be right back
he said make her smile don't make her cry and best always treat her right
promise me this you'll never hit her regardless how mad you get
because her husband was abusive. I had to bury my baby with bruises
