That Summer by the Sea
Running along the shores, Papa's yellow kite swirls and soars
He spins a tale, as the white gulls sail
Splashing all through the waves, exploring the pirate caves
My bucket in hand, fetching pearls from the sand
Red scarf in my hair, came loose in the wild ocean air
Beneath the sunshine, paradise was mine
That summer by the sea
I long to return to that summer by the sea
When life was a dance for papa and me
When he was near, autumn shadows disappeared
All the years he's been gone, I still hear his song
Down we rode to the fair, a fiddler's tune to share
He spins a tale, as the white boats sail
Later that silver night, performing in bright moonlight
Life is enchanted, all wishes granted
Violin tucked beneath his chin, the fairy tale begins
The bow in his stride, plays the music he writes
That summer by the sea
I long to return to that summer by the sea
When life was a dance for papa and me
When he was near, autumn shadows disappeared
All the years he's been gone, I still hear his song
The crowd begins to cheer, they come to the fair to hear
A gypsy melody, to set their hearts free
He tucks me in at night, a story by firelight
The old wicker chair, sea breeze in his hair
Kissing me on the cheek, he sings me fast asleep,
A lullaby, 'neath the milky-way sky
That summer by the sea
It was snowing, the wind it was blowing
That winter day, when the they carried him away
Come to me again, my angel, my friend
Papa ease my fears, take away my tears
Oh, take me back... take me back...
take me back to that summer by the sea
He spins a tale, as the white gulls sail
Splashing all through the waves, exploring the pirate caves
My bucket in hand, fetching pearls from the sand
Red scarf in my hair, came loose in the wild ocean air
Beneath the sunshine, paradise was mine
That summer by the sea
I long to return to that summer by the sea
When life was a dance for papa and me
When he was near, autumn shadows disappeared
All the years he's been gone, I still hear his song
