The Bleeding Rose

An angel sent from heaven
Came to a garden fair
Searching for a flower
To wreath her golden hair

A lily grew in splendor
Radiant and white
Dazzling in the sun
Shimmering of light

Then a single blood red rose
Caught the angel's eye
Dark and mysterious
She could not pass it by

Crimson petals beckoned
Beautiful and rare
The angel chose the red rose
To wreath her golden hair

But when she plucked the blossom
Was pierced by savage thorn
Blood flowed from the flower
The angel's heart was torn

The garden is bursting with color
Blossoms of every hue
A rose of the heart or a lily of light
Which will the angel choose

Roses like souls need tending
Lest they shrivel and fade on the vine
Neglect a red rose, crimson petals rain down
The flower will wither in time

An angel sent from heaven
Came to a garden fair
Searching for a flower
To wreath her golden hair

She cast it to the ground
And then she did dispose
Choosing the pale lily
Instead of the bleeding rose
