Mending Broken Dreams

Buried a friend the other day
Who was a little younger than me
Boy you talk about getting hit between the eyes
With a dose of reality
I thought a while about his life
And all the dreams he'd left behind
Then I couldn't help but start thinking about mine

The kids we were in high school
They all grew up and moved away
But it's funny how the dreams we had
Back then still seem to stay
Tucked down deep in our hearts
While we do what must be done
But the clock that's ticking on the wall
Won't stop for anyone
And the time that seemed so endless before
It doesn't stretch out to forever anymore

So now it's time to start to make those plans
To finally see some foreign land
Or just spend hours, worry free
Hanging out with friends
It's time to write a song
Time to tell a tale
Time to learn to dance or paint or maybe sail
There's so many things on my life's wish list it seems
That it's time to start mending
All those broken dreams

If I could live my whole life again
I wouldn't change a single thing
I've been a great wife, mom and daughter
And a hundred other things
And every heartache on the way
Has helped make me who I am
But that doesn't mean that
Life always turned out like I planned
And there's a world of things I know I'll never do
But that doesn't mean that there's not time
To make some dreams come true

So now it's time to start to make those plans
To finally see some foreign land
Or to just spend hours, worry free
Hanging out with friends
It's time to write a song
Time to tell a tale
Time to learn to paint or dance or maybe sail
There's so many things on my life's wish list it seems
That it's time to start mending
All those broken dreams
Those broken dreams
Those broken dreams
