Relying on deflection
Duplicitous response
Toe the line until the next election

Buying time until attention runs out
Endless stream of vapid distractions
Paid to keep the peace and get out of the way
Perpetuation that requires inaction

It dies down then it happens again
Another shooter out for revenge
On a system that will always win
A machine that profits at our expense

Recycle empty words
The power of deflection
Focus on the next scare
Cover up the infection

Place the blame on another scapegoat
Continue to demonize mental illness
Toxicity trickles from the top
A culture that encourages this sickness

Sales climb alongside the death toll
Fight for the country's fallen soul

We climb deeper into this hole
A fractured mess on the payroll

There is a way-
To tear down these walls that support today
This is the time-
To rewrite this book a different fucking way

Corruption comes in different forms
As long as markets perform
We turn a blind eye to the truth
And prepare for the next storm
