The Ballad of a Warrior Poet
I am blood, flesh, bone, but I am steel
I am brother, son, lover, but beast I feel
I am joy, health, peace, but I am pain
I am white clouds, blue skies, but the hurricane
Strength is a responsibility, the mother's words to her child
The beast was tame before it could be wild
Taught a gentle manner, kindness and a soft voice
Peace wasn't an option, it was the only choice
Grandpa said: you need to choose who you're gonna be
Subconsciously he knew that meant setting the beast free
His sensitive nature wouldn't allow it, his soul diverged
The beast growled under the surface and the artist emerged
High school fights, he played the role of a mediator
The words of a pacifist, the eyes of a gladiator
His gifts of words and psychology always gave him a solution
The use of the two together lead to the artist's evolution
But with every peaceful choice that put a smile on his mama's face
Came the indignant roar of the beast that now began to pace
A terrible power that remained untapped within
The time would come when the unshackling had to begin
I am blood, flesh, bone, but I am steel
I am brother, son, lover, but beast I feel
I am joy, health, peace, but I am pain
I am white clouds, blue skies, but the hurricane
He had to save a broken world, a world that was lost
That was his war, one he'd win at all costs
But fighting for what you believe in required a certain rage
So he weaponised his thoughts by letting the beast out the cage
Ideas and words clashed with muscles and claws
The aritist's elegance, with the beast's jaws
This was it, this was the fight for his soul
You cannot build, unless you yourself are whole
Their battle created flashes of brilliance in the galaxy of his mind
With every strike, every clash, the man himself became more defined
Savage and beautiful, a fight, but more than that
An understanding formed, this was harmonious combat
They turned to face the world as one: a fist and a roar
Drums beat, the Warrior Poet marched to war
I am blood, flesh, bone, and I am steel
I am brother, son, lover, and beast I feel
I am joy, health, peace, and I am pain
I am white clouds, blue skies, and the hurricane
I am brother, son, lover, but beast I feel
I am joy, health, peace, but I am pain
I am white clouds, blue skies, but the hurricane
