The Long Pig

I'm in a room
The smell of incense
Dulls the gloom
Tied to a chair
I know not where

The bag
Over my head
Is pulled off
Finally
It takes a moment
For my eyes to see

Dr. Shandor
His back turned towards me
All I hear
Is his breathing

The altar
Covered in purple silk
Obscuring
Something behind it

What seems
Like forever
No one speaks
No one moves

That moment
Is torn to shreds
As he turns
To face me

"I know your face
I was there, it must be fate
That night many moons ago
Watching Katherine Ovo...
She carved your daddy up
Because he was asking to many questions
What are the odds
Of it happening again?"

The rage is flared anew
Tearing open that old wound
The daggers in my eyes
Are pretty hard to hide

I want to kill this man
And make him pay for everything
Wishful thinking
Under the circumstances

He sees the truth at hand
And in a swift movement
The silk is torn away
Revealing the final travesty

My father
Fully mummified
Hung on a cross
His torso exposed

"What I saw that night
Revealed to me in a new light
The way things used to be
Before man was decieved...

We're not gods
We're little more than insects
Scurrying around
On our useless errands
What is life but a victory of the strong
All others live beneath us

But out there
Out beyond in the coldness of space
A higher intellect
Waiting for me to open the gate..."

The zeal in his eyes
Burn bright enough
To start a fire
He believes his rhetoric
And he's willing to die for it

What's my purpose
I really don't know
Why not kill me?
And let this be over...

I stare past Shandor
At the figure on the cross
There's intricate writing
All about his corpse

His grimace of pain and fear
Has remained all these years
Transcended
To a higher plane

Is this to be my end?
Will I accompany him in death?
Two men fighting against the odds
Fighting a hidden war...

"Mack, take him away
There's nothing more to say
Take him down to the cells
Let him think a while"

On the move again
Pitiless jailors obey the command
Deep down into the cold earth
Where hewn stone meets steel girders
