The Double

As a child, I was bitten in the yard by a dead bat
And its dead ghost will haunt me all of my days
And now I've grown tired of fighting my own image
But I can see the works of his hands all over town

Well I can see you might say I'm making excuses
Hiding all my misdeeds behind a curtain of words
But this shadow is as real as I am, perhaps more real
And he can take all of the blame for whatever you've heard
Well it's hard killing somebody
Who wears your own face and a different name
But now that you're real and I am not real

Maybe you can do all the work and I'll keep the
Name

Well the mirror tells lies I only half believe
And truths that I'm slow to understand
And in the dark of the night I follow a shadow
Down the fluorescent-lighted highway that leads to my home

Well it's hard killing somebody
Who wears your own face and a different name
But now that I find it's him or it's me
I can do what I have to do and not feel ashamed
