Amateurs

Would you like to get
A studio apartment
In the city
I could write my songs
You could focus on
Your photography
We'd be flat broke
But who knows
Maybe we'd make it
We'd become cheap wine connoisseurs
Realize we're nothing more than a pair of amateurs

But if you're mine
It wouldn't matter

In the morning when the light's shining on your pillowcase
You're in the kitchen making coffee as the city starts to wake
And every night we could fall asleep together

I could wake up alone
But next to you it'd be better

But you hate the city
And you're not particularly good at photography
You hate my songs
You think they're pretentious, boring, always the same old thing
The ATM becomes our enemy as
We don't make enough for groceries
And you start looking for a couch
So there's someplace else for me to sleep

But if you were mine
If you were mine
If you were mine

But maybe what I think I need
Is something no human being could possibly be
What I've been chasing isn't true
And it's not fair to be taking it out on you

'Cuz if you were mine
If you were mine
Even if you were mine
It wouldn't matter
