Worth It - Commentary

Love that song
What are we doing?
Danielle Bradbury on Big Machine Radio
Her new album is available, it's called, I Don't Believe We've Met
So this next song on the album, it's called Worth It
And I love this song because it is such a powerful and empowering song
You know, I think, sadly, some women don't realize their own worth
But the woman in this song, she knows who she is
She is not gonna let anybody treat her with any less than she deserves
So what was happening in the room that day when you and Jeff and Molly wrote Worth It?

You know, there was a lot of different feelings, to be honest, I didn't go in that, right?
Thinking this is gonna be exactly about a relationship
And I wanted to go in there and for it to be about anything you want it to be
And we were talking about real life stuff and just real feelings
I had this thing on my heart and on my mind in that, I mean, just that day
And I told him, I said, you know, I've been just as a normal conversation
We haven't started to really talk about the song yet
But I told him, "You know, I'm really struggling to really speak up for myself (right)
Really just say no to things that I don't feel is right
And, yeah, and that's kind of how the inspiration of that started

And you know, that can go exactly into a relationship too
I mean, you don't wanna be walked all over
And whether it's about a relationship with a work friend
With anybody else, with a friend or with your lover (that's interesting, yeah)
So I, we just kind of turned it into a relationship
And, I mean, I've witnessed one of my best friends go through something
And she was feeling just worthless
And I'm like, "No, do not let this guy make you feel this way
There's so much more to you", and

And I know a lot of friends and a lot of people that go through that
And I've even had dads, fathers come up to me after I've sang it at somewhere and
And they're like, "I have a 16-year-old daughter, or I have a 20 something year old daughter
And thank you, I want them to hear this"
'Cause as a dad that's scary for their daughter to go through that
I know my dad gets worried all the time and is always checking on me, and
Listen, I'm 40 something and this song just nailed me
It just like, it hit me in the face, I was like (yeah)

And so I, I really want that feeling for people to not be afraid to say that they're worth it
And they don't have to be cocky about it or, or, or anything like that
I mean, that's OK to know that you are to get you through
And to hopefully have more strength for yourself, so
It is phenomenal
It reminds me, I don't know if you've ever heard that saying
"Never make someone a priority when they only make you an option"
Yes, I love that quote
So, that's what I thought of when I heard this song

And, you know, you kinda touched on this
I have talked to you before about being a role model
I know it's something that you take a lot of pride in
So I would imagine even getting the feedback from the young girls themselves
Of knowing that you have sort of instilled this thought in their brain
Or maybe it will come to them later if they're in a relationship, and they're going to be like
You know what that song, I am worth it, and I'm not gonna settle
Yeah, I hope so and just seeing fans on social media

And what's really cool about it is some of those fans have stuck with me since the beginning
So we kind of grew up together
I remember seeing one of the girls at a show recently, and she's 19 now and
And when she followed, she was about 13, I don't know if that math is right
But it was that (it's somewhere in there), somewhere in there
And it's just like, wow, we both have grown up
It's not like, "Oh, you've grown up, I'm like, girl, we've been through this together"

And so, I mean, seeing them, seeing new fans that I have gained
Kind of direct message me and say stuff that is just going on with them
I'm like, I hope my song teaches you or reaches out or helps you in a way
I want us to be on the same page and hopefully help them in any way possible
So, hopefully my songs do that
Oh, I think they will

I mean, and whether you're in your career or a relationship or a friendship
If you're feeling that you are not as valuable as you are
Then you really need to listen to this song
It is amazing
It's called Worth It from Danielle Bradbury on Big Machine Radio
