Lonely As a Highway

Some nights if I'm lucky I can put my head down
And try to sleep for at least part of the night
But my bed is always empty pretty soon I'll start aching
To feel someone wrapped in my arms
I need a sweet voice in the darkness to chase away the gloom
But instead I'm as lonely as A highway in the night

Midnight's come again and I'm on my way home
To my empty apartment and a silent telephone
With the TV for company I strum my guitar
And I try to leave the day behind me
It sin't long before the solitude gets to me
I look around and I'm as lonely as a highway in the night

You know it's getting harder to find time anymore
To clean up my dishes or to sweep my kitchen floor
With all this running around you would think I'd meet someone
Who might like to spend some time with me
But when I'm finally able to get home for some rest
My little bed is just as lonely as a highway in the night
