Patience

She is the most beautiful song I've ever felt
And when I stare deep into her eyes
I see myself living for the first time
Like an infant's first instant in a new world
I needed to pray for patience
And for her ring finger to remain vacant until I occupy
Before I met her
I saw her walking to the melody of my pulse
Like my heartbeat was her favorite song
Like our souls sang duets
I caught her carrying her temple to a tempo
She spoke in sonnets and symphonies
With lungs like golden pipe organs
Her presence turned her surroundings into recitals and
I watched the melody her body made and
I could tell that she groomed herself with the Most High that morning
She was highly healthy, highly favored and high maintenance
I could tell that she wouldn't consume the garbage you try to feed her
And don't try it
I could see that she tasted and saw that the Lord is good
And she's staying true to that diet
It was obvious that she protects her temple
Like she allowed God to clean the hurt from there
And I know that many men want to trespass but not have church in there
But I can tell that she's not allowing any dirt in there
I just pray that someday I'm worthy enough to worship there
And with a love that won't fail or falter
I know I'll always be devoted to a daily devotion at her alter
So I prayed for patience
Because she was a beautiful song
Waiting for a musician to lift her from the score
And I was a musician longing for a beautiful ballad to adorn
And we'll praise God all the more
And we'll harmonize all the more
And we'll make melodious love all the more
Because everything about her is a metronome
That my rhythm-less life dearly adores
And, together, we're a lovely tune
Played beautifully enough to heal all open wombs
And that's a tune worth waiting for
